Tasting notes

Extensive skin contact gives this wine a glorious deep ruby colour. Intense aromas of sweet black raspberries, rosemary, dark chocolate and black licorice. Rich, firm tannins carry lush flavours of dark espresso and expensive cigars with a lengthy dark chocolate and hazelnut spread on the finish. Tannins are firm and unforgiving.

From older vines at the estate, 20-plus years, with a rich, bold nose of blackberry jam, old-fashioned raspberry, cherry, kirsch, blackberry and fine oak spices. It’s structured and beefy on the palate with bold fruit flavours, firm tannins, integrated spice and licorice, earth accents. Cellar 10-plus years. (90 points, Rick Van Sickle)

Clear garnet color.. A nose of blueberry, cassis, eucalyptus, coffee, mocha, chocolate, spice, espresso and licorice. The wine is firm, creamy, full-bodied and long on the palate. Pair it with grilled red meat. Serve it at 15-17 degrees. Ready to drink but can be aged 6-8 years yet. (93 points - Phillipe Perreault, Somellier for nataliemaclean.com)

Being a big fan of the 2010 version of this wine, I was hoping that the 2012 rendition would be just as glorious; well, it is! Full-bodied, yet elegant, this 14.3% alcohol wine doles out the blackberry, cassis, violets, raspberry, mocha, mint, roasted herbs and graphite qualities. The tannins are still forceful, so hold for two years and then drink until 2022. (ES)
