Tasting notes
2017 Espressivo is comprised of 52% Cabernet Franc, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, and 16% Sangiovese.
While distinctly Okanagan, it can be a ringer in an all Super Tuscan tasting. The large format puncheons and Hungarian/Slavonian oak are evident in the subtle way the oak is present with whispers of baking spice nuances. The fruit profile is dark bramble and currant fruit, married with savoury, herbal and spicy notes. Compared to its sibling Fortissimo, the tannins here are edgier and the wine is more structured yet also more expressive on the nose. We look forward to following the evolution of this wine in the bottle for many years to come.
Pairing
Collard green gnudi with lamb ragu. Rabbit saddle on the grill with Tuscan beans and sauteed lacinato kale is another favourite.
Appellation
BC VQA Okanagan Valley
Vinification
Espressivo is a Tuscan inspired red blend much like its sibling Fortissimo, except Espressivo is Cabernet (Sauvignon and Franc) dominant while Fortissimo is Merlot dominant. Espressivo is our way of paying respect to the pioneers of Tuscany who challenged the traditions of winemaking in the 50s and 60s to gain recognition for their wines.
17 months in Slavonian and French oak barrels and puncheons. 28% new oaks. Unfined, very lightly coarse filtered.

LaStella is Situated at Osoyoos Lake in the sunny South Okanagan valley of beautiful British Columbia. Theirr vineyards produce great fruit that are crafted into such proprietary wines as Allegretto, Vivace and Maestoso. Each wine has its own story and to convey these unique stories they name their wines after Italian musical notes.
Vineyards
The best wines come from the best vineyard sites; this is “terroir.” The Okanagan Valley happens to be one of the best wine regions anywhere with its unique climate and variety of latitudes and soils. Lastella is able to reflect the best distinct terroirs around the south Okangan, having aquired some of the best vineyards over more than a decade of exploration.
Severine Pinte came to LaStella n in 2010 with 14 harvests of international wine making experience under her belt along with 8 years of vineyard management. Severine is a graduate of the illustrious ENSAM (Ecole National Superior Agronomic of Montpellier) where she acquired her Masters in viticulture and oenology, and her National Diploma of Oenology. After leaving ENSAM she apprenticed at the Cave de Tecou in the AOC Gaillac before coming for the first time to British Columbia to work for Domaine de Chaberton as an assistant winemaker. In 1999 she returned to France and worked a year in Bordeaux under the direction of Andre Lurton in Pessac-Leognan then returned to the Languedoc. For nine years Severine was head winemaker and viticultural council for ‘Le Vignoble des 2 terres’ in the Terrasse du Larzac terroir.
In the winter of 2003 she took leave for harvest at Frankland Estate winery in Western Australia and enjoyed learning a different take on her beloved Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux originated varieties. Curiosity and the pursuit of new challenges brought Severine to the Okanagan and she brought with her an astute understanding of wine and terroir. Her favorite quote is from Jean Hugel: “100% of the quality of a true wine is already in the grapes, not in the cellars where you can only lose quality.”
For her, the Okanagan, with its unique terroir and cool climate, has always been intriguing and she strive every year to craft world class wines in the South Okanagan.
