Tasting notes

Hints of fresh cut grass and light gooseberry, followed by peaches and tropical fruits. The palate shows a balanced entry between acidity and sweetness; it starts slightly soft with tropical fruits but finishes clean and dry with lingering grapefruit and clean acidity.

Pairing

Pair this wine with scallops and jumbo prawns, or simply a soft cheese, such as double cream Brie, on a classic crusty French baguette.

Enjoy through 2025

Michael Godel.  Dry as the Sonoran desert, properly extenuated by acidity and just bloody scintillating stuff. The smoulder and lit candle aspect is there but more subtle than some, perhaps because of the softly savoury beeswax and candlenut character. Quite fleshy and almost creamy with an ever-pervasive mineral underlay. Quality blend all the way through. Drink 2020-2024. Tasted November 2020.

David Lawrason.  This sauvignon blanc/semillon blend has a very lifted and intriguing nose of juniper, sage, lavender and fine wood spice - a classic of the genre created in Bordeaux. It is medium weight, quite linear and tart-edged with intense flavours. Wouldn't mid a bit more flesh here, but the flavours will excite any fans in the sauvignon camp. Excellent length. John Szabo, MS.  A classic sauvignon-semillon blend in the Bordeaux style, once past the whiff of onion, this white reveals attractive citrus and floral notes, lemon-lime and sweet green herbs, with no evident wood influence. Balance on the palate is very good, pitting ripe acids against moderate alcohol and a light, gentle grip. Very good length. A wine to drink or better yet hold for another year or two. Good stuffing here. Tasted November 2020.

Justin Hall - Winemaker

Following graduation from high school, Justin approached Senior Randy Picton for a job at Nk’Mip cellars. He was awarded the glamorous task of cleaning equipment and hoses and became drawn to the idea of capturing a culture in a bottle of fine wine. He took on night classes at Okanagan University College, earning his certificates in the Winery Assistant and Viticulture programs. To learn the intricacies of a large winery and the many roles and responsibilities that go into the wine-making process, Justin travelled to West Australia to work the crush at Goundrey winery.

Justin returned to Nk’Mip Cellars after earning a post-graduate diploma in Enology and Viticulture from New Zealand’s Lincoln University, and assumed responsibility as Assistant Winemaker.  In May 2017, Justin was promoted to the role of Winemaker. A proud member of the Osoyoos Indian band, Justin works with Randy Picton to craft the award-winning wines of Nk’Mip Cellars.
