Tasting notes

A fruit explosion with notes of apricot, peach, pineapple, mango, blood orange, lemon, and gooseberry. This lively wine offers palate coating acidity and sweetness, leading to a long finish.

Ehrenfelser is a white wine grape variety of German origin. It was created by Dr. Heinrich Birk (1898-1973) at the Geisenheim Grape Breeding Institute in 1929, by crossing Riesling with what was thought at the time to be Silvaner, but DNA markers have since indicated it was the Alsace variety Knipperlé.

Pairing

The perfect accompaniment to Thai green curry, sushi and picnic sandwiches. Or simply enjoy on its own as a sipping wine with friends!

Cellaring

Enjoy through 2025

87 points, BRONZE - 2021 Decanter World Wine Awards:  Floral and fragrant with a bouquet of jasmine, rose and geranium. Absolutely attractive and alluring.

The 2019 vintage is a blend of three vineyard sites beginning in the south Okanagan with the warmest site at Inkameep Vineyards at Osoyoos, joined by the home Summerhill Vineyard, and Cathpair Vineyard located in the cooler Kelowna area in the north Okanagan. Cold stabilization halts the fermentation leaving 19 grams of residual sugar and a medium sweet Ehrenfeser. The fruit is a riot of tangerine, apricot, peach and tropical fruits flecked with enough acidity to keep it travelling across the palate. It would be fun to sip on a warm patio all summer, but for now, put it up against a powerful curry or even spicy tuna sashimi, or barbecue ribs. Serve well chilled.

Producer Description

Summerhill Pyramid Winery features organic and biodynamic wine grown in the beautiful Okanagan Valley in Kelowna, British Columbia. Organic practices have been an integral part of Summerhill since the Kelowna vineyard was purchased by the Cipes family in 1986. Producing wine organically has a very meaningful benefit to the environment, and some scientists suggest that eating organic foods greatly benefits our health as well. Aside from these benefits, we believe that organic practices allow for the grapes in our vineyards to honestly express their surroundings, providing deep, terroir-driven qualities that are a true articulation of Okanagan terroir.
