Micro Cuvée Pinot Noir is one of the best pinots made in BC, year in and year out. Since we need to avoid the Burgundy descriptor, I would characterize Micro Cuvee as a Grand Cru BC pinot given its incredible mouthfeel and lengthy, silky finish. It’s a best barrel selection from the home McLean Creek Road vineyard, and in 2018 the selection of two clones: a block of Pommard Clone 91, and a quarter of clone 115. It was aged eleven months in two new 500L French oak puncheons, along with four one-year-old puncheons, before it was bottled unfined and unfiltered. The style is fragrant and attractive but substantive on the palate with dark raspberry, slippery tannins, and a dusty saline mineral finish. It will repay cellaring or current drinking with creamy, rich mushroom, duck, pork, or turkey dishes. Good value too.

Elegant, seamless, expressive. Located in the Okanagan Falls sub-GI, Meyer Family Vineyards specializes in premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from estate vineyards under the winemaking guidance of Chris Carson. The 2018 Micro Cuvee Pinot Noir is blended from selected barrels from their McLean Creek Road vineyard. It came together in two new 500 litre French oak puncheons along with four one-year-old French oak puncheons and was aged for 11 months. Made in a hands-off approach supporting an expression of terroir,it is also unfined and unfiltered. It's flagrant affinity to those Pinots from Pommard is thanks to its high percentage of clone 91; it also benefits from the aromatics of clone 115. It over delivers with aromas of ripe cherry and black raspberry, violets and cedar, rainforest floor along with botanical notes. Expressive juicy fruit and brown spice flavours are lashed with vanilla. Silky, harmonious and elegant it's a beautifully constructed wine.

Viticulture

Our family owned “McLean Creek Road Vineyard” is in Okanagan Falls, British Columbia. The vineyard has a predominantly steep southerly aspect with the soil comprised of alluvial and glacial deposits making up a mix of gravelly and sandy loams. The Pinot Noir blocks are planted with a Pommard clone (91) and 4 Dijon clones (114, 115, 667, 777) and are planted in three distinct blocks on the 20-acre property (16-acres planted). The largest of these blocks has a steep southerly aspect to capture the full range of the sun, the second block has a gently sloping westerly aspect giving a slightly higher temperature from the afternoon sun, and the third and coolest of the blocks has a gentle northwest aspect. Our philosophy is to manage each block separately and treat each vine individually. Although we are not certified organic, we practice organic/sustainable farming principles.

Vinification

The Micro Cuvée Pinot Noir represents the most harmonious blend of selected barrels from our McLean Creek Road vineyard. For the 2018 Micro Cuvée, the grapes predominantly came from our block of Pommard Clone 91 with Clone 115 contributing one quarter. Our winemaker selected two new French oak 500 litre puncheons from the Tronçais forest along with four one-year-old French oak puncheons from the Tronçais and Allier forests to make up the Micro Cuvée. In keeping with our philosophy to maintain, as much as possible, a hands-off approach in the cellar to allow the true expression of terroir, this wine is unfined and unfiltered.

Producer Description

In traditional French Burgundian style we focus on small case lots of varietals best suited and expressive of their unique place of origin with an emphasis on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We produce about 8,000 cases and strive to produce the finest wines possible. Our wines are hand harvested and hand crafted and we take great pride in each bottle of wine with great attention to detail. We hope that you enjoy our wines as much as we enjoy making them!

OUR PHILOSOPHY

To produce the finest quality wines in the traditions of burgundy, we believe the wines are not made but grown. Each wine reflects the single vineyard of its origin, the soil, the meso-climate, the aspect and the people that hand tend the vines. Hand-harvested and hand-crafted, with great attention to detail and minimal winemaking intervention we take pride in each bottle of wine. Meyer Family Vineyards wines are produced from two main vineyards, the 1.62-hectare “Old Main Road” vineyard on the Naramata Bench and the 6.9-hectare “McLean Creek Road” vineyard in Okanagan Falls. We also work with passionate quality-minded growers in Kaleden and the East Kelowna area to round out our portfolio of terroir-driven wines.

Winemaker Chris Carson brings a wealth of global experience to Meyer Family Vineyards. His philosophy is to care for the grape on the vine and maintain as much as possible a hands-off approach in the cellar to allow the true expression of the terroir.
