Tasting notes

The 2013 Spadefoot Syrah has blackberry, raspberry, black cherry, white pepper, and well integrated oak. It is medium bodied, has a bright acidity, firm but round tannins, and longer finish.

An age-worthy blend of Syrah clones #7, #99 & #100 grown at Ron Firman’s certified organic Spadefoot Toad Vineyard in Oliver, BC. Aged 30 months in mostly neutral oak barriques

Unfined and unfiltered, this natural wine may drop sediment or wine crystals. Decanting recommended.

Pairing

Rib eye steak with garlic herb butter, roasted duck breast with blueberry sauce, roasted lamb with rosemary and garlic, braised chicken with rice pilaf, pesto-stuffed mushrooms, aged Gouda cheese.

Appearance: Deep purple in colour. Nose: Cedary, blackberry nose with light herbal and white pepper notes. Palate: Medium to full-bodied, dry and savoury, blackberry flavour carried on lively acidity.  Broad and muscular on the palate with enough tannin to give grip and structure. Lovely mouthfeel and a warm alcoholic finish. Quality: Outstanding.

Producer Description

Summerhill Pyramid Winery features organic and biodynamic wine grown in the beautiful Okanagan Valley in Kelowna, British Columbia. Organic practices have been an integral part of Summerhill since the Kelowna vineyard was purchased by the Cipes family in 1986. Producing wine organically has a very meaningful benefit to the environment, and some scientists suggest that eating organic foods greatly benefits our health as well. Aside from these benefits, we believe that organic practices allow for the grapes in our vineyards to honestly express their surroundings, providing deep, terroir-driven qualities that are a true articulation of Okanagan terroir.
