Organic estate wines from Summerland’s lakeside slopes

Lunessence is an estate winery on the lakeside slopes of Summerland in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. Its vineyards have been farmed organically since 2014 and certified organic since 2020. Natural wetlands and biodiversity help sustain a healthy vineyard ecosystem. Respect for the land guides decisions from soil to cellar, with wines intended to express their origin. The tasting room and patio overlook Okanagan Lake.

Lunessence Rosé 2025

A pale salmon-coloured rosé with refreshing grapefruit and wild-strawberry flavours. From Dragon Mountain Vineyard on the Summerland Lakefront.

Blend: 66% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc and 3% Syrah.

Winemaking: 62% of the fruit was foot-trodden, with one hour of skin contact. The wine spent five months on its lees in stainless steel.

Technical data: Alcohol 12.4%; residual sugar 7.7 g/L; total acidity 6.4 (unit not specified by the winery); pH 3.34.

Lunessence Merlot 2022

BC VQA Merlot from Osoyoos. Deep red in colour, with cedar, tobacco and blueberry aromas; dried plum, blackcurrant and floral hibiscus notes follow on the palate. Fine, gentle tannins give a smooth texture.

Producer’s winemaking notes: Whole-bunch pressing, 40% foot-trodden fruit, spontaneous malolactic fermentation and 12 months in French oak, 12% new. Bottled without fining or filtration.

Technical data: Alcohol 14.2%; residual sugar 2.3 g/L; 750 mL.

A varietal Petit Verdot made from Osoyoos-grown fruit in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley.

Winemaking: Fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for 15 months in neutral oak. Bottled without filtration or fining.

Technical data: 100% Petit Verdot; alcohol 14%; residual sugar 1 g/L; total acidity 5.5 (unit not specified by the winery); pH 3.75.
