Michaela Morris - Pioneers of low intervention, natural winemaking in British Columbia, Alishan Driediger and Rhys Pender, Master of Wine, planted their Mulberry Tree Vineyard in 2008, with the first releases from 2011. Ferment wild, raised in neutral barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur, the Riesling is remarkably focused and almost excruciatingly intense at the moment. Green apple, chalky lees, white lemon and lime cordial are waiting to explode. Searingly dry, sinewy in strength and pristine. As bracing as the acidity is, it is integrated and succulent. While waiting for this, try Little Farm’s 2-week skin contact Riesling for a convincing, clean orange wine.

David Lawrason - Made with minimal sulphur and filtration, this is a deeply coloured riesling with very ripe, exuberant aromas of peach jam, honey and crushed yellow flower petals. It is quite full bodied, rich and, just off dry. It strikes me as very much like an Alsatian riesling. Almost opulent. The length is excellent. Chill well. Tasted August 2024

Vintage Notes

The 2020 vintage was moderate in temperature with a long growing season giving excellent flavour intensity from low yields. The small clusters of Riesling grapes were foot trodden, lightly pressed and racked to stainless steel tank to ferment naturally. Fermentation stopped naturally on its own at 9 g/L residual sugar, balancing the pH of just 2.8. A portion of the grapes experienced a few hours skin contact. The wine was then aged for around 8 months on the lees to build texture, mouthfeel and complexity. The wine was bottled with a light filtration in July 2021.

Producer Description

Little Farm Winery is the small hands-on operation of Rhys Pender MW and Alishan Driediger. It started with a passion for wine and developed into growing and producing Chardonnay and Riesling from our Mulberry Tree Vineyard at our home in Cawston. Our goal is to make wines with minimal manipulation and intervention and to really capture the growing season.

Little Farm Winery will never be big and will always focus on making small batches of single-vineyard wine that reflect each site´s unique characteristics. Our goal is to make interesting, characterful, natural-ish wines and look after our little farm.
