Vintage Notes

2022 was a beautiful year. Not as hot as 2021 and initially looking like a cool and wet year, things changed early in the summer and the second half of the year was one of the warmest on records. The wines show great freshness and elegance, great flavour and moderate alcohol levels.

Vinification

The three clones of Chardonnay, farmed organically, were wild fermented in stainless steel. The goal was to show the minerality we get from the siliceous (Siliceuse en francais) soils of our Mulberry Tree vineyard. Siliceuse refers to the mineralogy of the site, the siliceous soils made up of the minerals quartz, feldspars and amphiboles that contribute a stony, racy, minerality to the wine. Fermented with wild yeast and aged on the lees with a light filtration before bottling. Racy, intense, salty and stony this is one for those who love minerality in their wines.

Producer Description

Little Farm Winery is the small hands-on operation of Rhys Pender MW and Alishan Driediger. It started with a passion for wine and developed into growing and producing Chardonnay and Riesling from our Mulberry Tree Vineyard at our home in Cawston. Our goal is to make wines with minimal manipulation and intervention and to really capture the growing season.

Little Farm Winery will never be big and will always focus on making small batches of single-vineyard wine that reflect each site´s unique characteristics. Our goal is to make interesting, characterful, natural-ish wines and look after our little farm.
