Product description

The Bacchus grape has noble heritage. A Vitis Vinifera cross between Riesling, Sylvaner and Muller-Thurgau, it produces intensely aromatic and powerful wines. This wine offers expressive aromatics that include both orchard and tropical fruits, along with herbaceous and grassy undertones. The palate is round and creamy with nice concentration and flavours of poached pear, thyme, sage, and pink grapefruit. There’s a bit of lime peel on the finish and a flinty minerality that persists to the end of the long finish.

Pairing

The freshness, aromatics and crisp acidity enables our Bacchus to pair well with many different dishes. Great on its own as an aperitif, it's also awesome with coconut poached halibut with lime cilantro gremolata or tuna sashimi with soy marinade!

    Carl's Wine Club

Well priced, crisp, light on its feet with amazing floral intensity, this wine is becoming a staple in the Black Market portfolio. Bacchus is a Vitis Vinifera cross between Riesling, Sylvaner and Muller-Thurgau and this rare BC example is from 100% estate fruits from the Conviction Ridge vineyard in Kaleden, in the Central Okanagan. On the nose, obvious grassiness aromas start you off before the floral component of jasmine and lilac appears and shines, followed by fresh pear, apricot, and a hint of fresh herbs. The palate is delightful and profound, with flavours of orchard fruits like pear, apple and peach, gooseberry, but also just a spark of pineapple to bring richness to a bright acid structure. This finish is long showing citrus bite and ginger, and display a slight salty minerality that I really appreciate, adding extra complexity to an already very intriguing wine. The low 11.9% alcohol serves this wine very well.

Producer Description

Inspired artisan wines, hand-crafted in the Heart of Wine Country.

Situated on a bench overlooking Skaha Lake in picturesque Kaleden, BC, Garagistes Rob Hammersley and Michelle Shewchuk are crafting distinctive small-lot wines. In addition to Conviction Ridge Vineyard, their organically farmed estate property, the other vineyards from which they source their grapes are responsibly and sustainably farmed by growers who care as much about quality as they do.

Fueled by passion | Driven by perfection | Unconstrained by Tradition.

For many years while still living in Calgary, Rob and Michelle would travel to the Okanagan in search of the small boutique wines that weren’t available in the Alberta market. Inevitably, they would fill their car with cases and cases of amazing wines…and “smuggle” them back across the border to share with family and friends ("smuggled' since Canada's archaic alcohol laws make it technically illegal to carry wine across provincial boundaries!). They became known as the Wine Black Marketeers, so when they set up their own winery, choosing the name was easy!

Today they are crafting beautiful small batch wines that reflect some of the best varieties of the Okanagan as well as some suprising rarer grapes that make for a distinctive portfolio!
