Tasting notes

Imagine dipping a freshly-baked lemon/herb croissant into a cloud, and you have some idea of how this wine tastes.

Nose: Extensive lees aging has brought toasty/biscuity, lemon-curd, and crème-fraîche notes to the fore, with orange-zest, green-apple, and light floral aromas eventually appearing.

Palate: Delicious notes of cherry, beetroot, and earthy nuances, with incredible depth and complexity.

Finish: A rich, creamy, and round palate with a very fine mousse leads to fresh-baked bread, vanilla-cream, preserved lemon, and roasted almond — cut through with monumental acidity and the ever-present minerality and flintiness of old vines.

Pairing

Enjoy now or allow it to age gracefully over the next 10+ years. Pairs beautifully with fresh Malpeque oysters, hazelnut-crusted halibut, and soft white cheeses.

Cellaring

Enjoy now or allow it to age gracefully over the next 10+ years.

Vintage Notes

A limited library release, showcasing the depth that extended lees aging brings to old-vines Beamsville Bench Chardonnay.

Viticulture

Sourced from a beautiful old-vines block (40+ years old) on the Beamsville Bench, this 100% Chardonnay fruit was grown specifically for the estate's traditional method sparkling program.

Vinification

The base wine was fermented and aged on lees in barrel for 6 months. Made using the traditional method, the second fermentation took place in bottle, followed by an extended period of aging on lees before disgorgement.

Producer
Producer Description

Founded by Ilya and Nadia Senchuk in 2011 on 11 acres in Winona, at the far western edge of the Niagara Peninsula, Leaning Post Wines built its reputation on single-vineyard, sub-appellation-driven Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Winemaker Ilya Senchuk sources fruit from a small circle of sites he knows intimately — the estate's own Senchuk Vineyard along with Grimsby Hillside, Keczan, Hemeris and Bock — farmed and vinified with minimal intervention so each site's character comes through clearly in the glass. Leaning Post was an early champion of the Lincoln Lakeshore sub-appellation designation and is Certified Sustainable by Sustainable Winegrowing Ontario. The wines have consistently ranked among Ontario's top producers and are poured in leading restaurants in Toronto, Montreal, London and Copenhagen.
